Coping with difficulties in Behaviour Observation


BOT Video Training Exercise 1:

Use the coping methods for the following video scenes.

Situation: Four students apply for a job and are preparing for the job interview.

Observe the behaviour of the 4 job applicants in the following video scenes. Take notes. What are the non-verbal cues of “nervousness” in this group as they wait? Make a list of possible signs of “nervousness”. Note that you cannot observe a personality trait like “nervousness”. That would be an interpretation or judgment.

All that you can observe in the next video is nonverbal behaviour that could indicate “nervousness”. A reliable observer should always be able to differentiate between observation and judgment.

BOT Video Training Exercise 2:

What are the non-verbal signs in this group of not being focused on work? Make a list of possible signs. Again, you should differentiate between interpretation/ judgment and behaviour. Only the non-verbal behaviour you observe in the next video could be signs of not being focused on work.

And now the last of the 3 exercises for differentiating behaviour observation from interpretation/judgment:

What are the nonverbal signs of trying to make contact? Of the 4 people in the next video, who seems most to be trying to make contact with others? Explain your decision.
